Just wanted to give a well-deserved thumbs up to the owner and her staff for the honorable way they handled a customer service issue that could have gone in a completely different direction had they not demonstrated the candor they did. The tech involved went out of his way to do what he could to fix the issue and the owner, instead of denying responsibility (like some other shops I’ve dealt with and many I’ve heard/read reviews about) faced the issue head on and stated (the wording might not be exact but…) that ” we are looking at this as a learning opportunity and it will allow us to provide better service for our customers going forward” and, in fact, thanked me for bringing the issue to her attention. This is the kind of customer service ethic that, IMO, separates a good business from an exceptional one and Brown’s Automotive, in this situation, is the latter.

I came to NC 14 years ago and this Is the first business in any place that ALWAYS CONSISTANTLY I could trust would not only repair my cars to the highest standards, they also just treat me with respect and total honesty. Tonnika has now masterfully been at the helm of this wonderful shop for 10 years, taking it over when her father Sam retired. And now this is a three generation operation that obviously has for years and years and years consistently come out on top of local best businesses. I cant find enough superlatives to shower upon everyone there, I actually have fun and enjoy every visit. This is certainly your best bet for the highest quality in workmanship and customer service.

Several people had recommended Brown’s to me in the past and with my most recent car issues (tires), I decided to give them a call. They went ABOVE AND BEYOND. Shared information on how I could get the best deal possible on my tires, worked swiftly to get the tired installed on my vehicle, offered a loaner regardless of their ability to get to my job, the list goes on! They ended up turning around the job quickly and for a price I felt really good about. Already scheduled a return for additional service needed later this month. Highly, highly recommend!

This was my first experience with Brown’s automotive. I heard heard good things about them from neighbors and on the Nextdoor app. I have a local mechanic I’ve used for six years. They’ve been fine, but I haven’t really fallen in love with them. I had a great experience with Brown’s and will be going back there from now on I believe. People were very personable. I felt they were very honest and gave me sound advice on servicing my 15-year-old Camry hybrid.

Browns were ready at the appointed time and were finished sooner than the allocated time. They were very thorough in pointing out what I should be aware of. The waiting area was clean and comfortable. I felt that they have my safety and best interests at heart.

Our Subaru Ascent was due for its annual safety inspection in December. While it passed inspection, the technician provided us with a detailed report, including photos and videos of the vehicle, of items that merit attention now or in the near future. This report is very thorough and very helpful for planning our next services. We have been very pleased with the service and honesty at Brown’s Automotive since we arrived in Chapel Hill in March, 2018.

In 2025, good customer service is hard to come by, so anytime I experience a service where the service is immaculate; I do my best to acknowledge it. Browns Automotive did a great job with my cars oil change, inspection and wheel alignment. They didn’t make me feel heckled or uncomfortable when it came to additional services my car needed. They provided the breakdown with notes and videos (that provide great knowledge) and simply asked if I wanted to receive any of the services done through a text message to overview and my no was respected. The sense of comfort that brings to a customer is how you connect and assure your customers return. Brown automotive has found a forever customer in me and I’m grateful.

Service with a smile! This was an annual visit for my 3 year old Toyota. I had a slow leak in Passenger rear tire which was repaired and tires were rotated and oil changed. Great service and friendly, knowledgeable front desk.

Brown’s Automotive was recommended by a family member after mentioning I was feeling a vibration in my steering wheel and a number of unusual sounds coming from the undercarriage. I read their reviews which many of them felt personable. Finding a reliable, honest, and competent mechanic outside of a dealership has always been a hit or mis for me over the years but the reviews gave me a sense of peace. I’m a retired military guy that’s into the details and excellence and I don’t think it’s to much to ask that a business that I’m considering have the same mentality and standard. After speaking with the manager whom I assume is also the owner, I felt she took her job serious, appreciated my business and was determined to provide the best service possible and maintain the excellent reputation her business has built, apparently over a few decades. I explained my situation and left my vehicle to be inspected. Not long after I received a text and email listing their findings. The detailed text included videos of the mechanic clearly showing the source of the problem(s) on my vehicle. Not only did they provide videos of my vehicle but they also included short video clips that explained the purpose and function of the parts that were in need of repair. I was impressed. I had not seen this type of attention to detail and going the extra mile to help me understand the status of my vehicle before through the use of simple, accessible technology. Maybe these types of informative videos have become common in the auto mechanic industry, but it was my first introduction which definitely left a great impression. They also provided a list of other findings and prioritized them from “future services required” to “immediate attention”. I was also provided price options of the various parts that were in need of replacing. The manager listened while I explained that I live abroad and travel often and how the vehicle is only used when I’m in the U.S. She took my status in consideration and provided her honest expert opinion regarding which parts best met my need as well as offered advice regarding how the best store my vehicle during long periods of nonuse. I took her advice. The repairs were made and all day I have been experiencing that great sense of satisfaction that you get when you know you made the right financial investment. I can honestly say my car feels brand new again and that I received far above in value than what I actually paid which unfortunately, is rare in our world today. I highly recommend this place to any and everyone looking for an Exceptional Auto Repair and Service Shop. ESPECIALLY SINGLE WOMEN. Great communication. Asked me for my tire info before my appointment, then sent me a quote with 3 great tire options. I chose my option and they had the tires ordered and ready when I dropped my car off. Tires were changed, car was aligned and ready for pickup in 2 hours. The sent me a text when it was time. There were no surprises. I knew the price up front. Everyone I have referred has been super happy as well. Can’t say enough great things.

Another great experience with Browns. Great ‘intake’ – assessed our concerns about an aging car that needed a variety of things figured out, and what was important to fix, or not right now. Brown’s team did just that and we realized we needed to sell the car as is, and move on, instead of putting a couple thousand dollars into it. Perfect outcome. I like that they are clear they charge for analysis and opinions, but are willing to not do the work until approved.

My car had some scary signals go off on my way to work Monday and I chose to call Brown’s Automotive because they have fantastic reviews on Google and needed help quickly. They were able to work my car into the shop same day, thoroughly evaluated all the issues, worked with me by loaning me a car while mine was being repaired so I could make it to work, and never made me feel stupid or judged through the whole process. They were very efficient, kind, and welcoming which isn’t always the case as a woman going into a car shop. My car is now running perfectly and I plan to visit again soon for some more minor repairs that didn’t need immediate attention. Very thankful for this shop!

This place is super-organized and seems very good at what they do. We were treated in a very courteous and friendly but business-like manner and received reminder calls for our scheduled appointment and were informed up front which documents we needed and the anticipated charge. We have a 60,000 mile checkup coming up and we’re going back.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. Not only are they fabulous mechanics you’d be hard pressed to find customer service as spectacular as theirs at any business. Kind, courteous and professional are just the first 3 things that come to mind. They helped me and my siblings with a delicate situation with our mother who became unable to pick up her car due to medical issues. All of us live several hours away but they helped us figure out a way to get the car, even offering it to deliver it to my mother’s apartment for us. They were patient with us while we figured this out every step of the way. I cannot thank them enough for making what was already a difficult situation much easier to manage.

Such a great experience. I was visiting Durham/ Chapel Hill from Washington, DC, when I experienced car trouble. Brown’s Automotive came to my rescue. They took my car in late on Monday evening and had it repaired by 10am Tuesday Morning allowing me to get back to Washington on Tuesday in enough time to attend my meeting that evening. The shop was one of the cleanest Auto shop that I have ever taken my LEXUS LS to for repairs. They were polite and professional as they come. Brown\’s is my mechanic going forward! First, everyone was NICE. They explained everything and tried to advise me on the most cost effective solution. The owner goes above and beyond, so nice and made what would have otherwise been a stressful situation easy and convenient. She seems to really care about customers and her business. My fairly serious mechanical issues on my car were solved and I believe I was charged a fair price for the complexity of the work. I am recently single and feeling quite lost when it comes to car maintenance and repair. Browns has not only taken excellent care of the car (fixed it even when the issues were sometimes sudden) but they’ve also patiently explained to me what I need to do to maintain the car. The thing I value the absolute most, however, is how kind everyone is. *I* feel taken care of as well and I cannot tell you how much this means to me. It’s an amazing older automotive shop tucked in a corner in Raleigh. Employees seemed to be straightforward and honest about what your car needs to have serviced/replaced. They didn’t try to upsell anything. This place was recommended by Costco by two of their employees. (They aren’t supposed to recommend but I insisted because I wanted someone top notch) I also found out they do other types of work such as getting emission testing, etc. They are rated 4.9 and I can see why. They have a funky nostalgic waiting area and had the Lone Ranger playing on the TV. Fun!

I received great service at Brown’s Automotive last week. I needed new tires. The associate, Haley, sent me several price options for tires. She did Not try to persuade me to buy the most expensive ones. Of course I did my research on the ones I could afford before making my selection. Brown’s sent a reminder prior to the appointment which i appreciated. They were ready for me and my car at the scheduled time. And, the service was completed before the projected completion time. First time using Browns for my 4 vehicles. Excellent customer service. Excellent software with timely notifications. Haley, the receptionist is knowledgeable and customer oriented. Not sure if this is true but I overheard that they do not do just inspections so I got oil changes and inspections. Prices reasonable for inspection, oil change, tire rotation, alignment, and rear suspension Tires for all 4 wheels were a bit (several hundred $) more expensive than others so I declined. Overall excellent service and experience

Had to replace the brakes and tires on my car this week and was the first time using Browns. What a great experience! Hailey at the front desk was extremely helpful answering questions on the quote and was very responsive. Will definitely use Browns moving forward for all of our car maintenance needs.

One day for estimate; one day for repair. Customer service was smooth and professional. Estimate was sent electronically–first time I’ve seen that. You could pay online also, but I just paid when I picked up the car. Overall a very good car repair experience, and I will use Brown’s again.

In-depth inspection results with notes from the techs (including videos and photos) and transparent estimates makes everything very clear. Cool staff doesn’t hurt either.

They are professional and kind and went above beyond being able to fix a panel on my car which they initially thought might require a body shop – but they worked to get the part in exceedingly quickly to help me. Their staff is great. I’d highly recommend them and will be returning for all my future car maintenance.

I left my 2016 Subaru in Brown’s lot on a sunday afternoon, left the keys in the drop box with a note saying that there was a slow leak in a tire, and that the oil needed changing, and that I hoped they could fit it in by noon on Tuesday. I have been a regular customer there for two years. Monday morning, I got an email with the “diagnosis” and the price and the promise it would be ready by closing that day. Fantastic, fast, friendly and reasonably priced. They pay their staff well, which makes me feel even better about the team.

Communication from staff was excellent!. Price was more than another quote BUT they were complete with my service needs. Other company was just surface level experience which placed me in the situation to get more work completed. Example: driving chain was set to need replacement and they recommended that since the labor work was being completed already, all that was needed was purchase of part opposed to waiting till it went bad (likely in the next 1-2 years) and it would save me thousands in labor costs and another trip to shop and time without he vehicle. They may have quoted more but they were not only excellent with communication but able to complete 2 weeks earlier, and I feel confident that they have customer’s best interest in mind. Brown’s was recommended to me and I will continue to recommend them as well.

Now I did not have the best credit, in fact I had been to several other locations that would not and could not work with my credit. After one call, I was told they’d be able to work with me on a vehicle. Now while all this is happening, we are expecting our next child in any day. Not only did browns go to bat for me when no one else did, but when at the hospital for the birth of our child they held the vehicle I was interested in. I was able to have a comfortable experience with my family and the birth of our child as well as feel safe in the fact the vehicle we wanted would be there. Now following the birth of the baby, not only were they able to help me with friendly service and knowledge, but went so far as to even have a salesperson(s) (Ms. Shenae and CJ ) call me and congratulate me, but they followed me back to the hospital so my resting mother of my child could do her paperwork from the hospital. All in all the best experience ever. The staff became family, and they have a customer for life. Thank you Brown’s. There was a potential problem that was estimated at more than $1000. On further evaluation, the mechanic found that the abnormality was only superficial and no further action needed to be taken. This is another example of the outstanding services provided by Brown’s Automotive.

Tonnika and her crew were super fast in getting back with me when I asked for a quote on tires online. The appointment was set up for a set of tires and an alignment. The online transaction was seamless with their texting communications with the quote, status reports and online secure payment. We could not pick up our car until after hours so our car was locked up and the keys were in a lockbox we were given the combination to. Great service and great folks. Y’all go here!!

I had a screw in a tire on my SUV. Brown’s fitted me into their very busy schedule on the same day I called. They repaired the tire, replaced the spare tire, and stowed the spare correctly. The service charge was extremely reasonable and the service folks were very professional and customer facing.

We’ve been taking our cars to Brown’s for more than 5 years now. Everyone once in a while we’ve tried a different place that’s a little closer or that friends have recommended, but we’ve always come back to Brown’s. They do great work and they’ve always charged reasonable prices. I’ve never felt like I was ripped off or upsold on any maintenance or repairs, and I’ve never had to bring my car back because something wasn’t done right.

Always friendly, work is done fast and well. I have never felt like the prices are being inflated, especially because they regularly present multiple options for completing the work with varying quality of parts for different prices rather than pushing a single expensive option on you. I have gone here for everything, oil changes, tire replacement, inspections, and major engine trouble and have always been satisfied.

Had a great experience as a first time customer here this am getting a state inspection on my car. I did need to call and make an appointment but they had me in and out very quickly (and told me how long it would take – and it took even less time). Super friendly staff and a warm, welcoming atmosphere (loved the halloween decorations!). Will be coming here in the future for maintenance and repairs. Thank you!

Tonnika and her team are the absolute best!! They are so professional, trustworthy, kind, honest, and good people that are such a pleasure to visit and do business with. Although we moved further out to Pittsboro, I still make a point to bring our cars to Browns Automotive as they have won my loyalty and I always refer people to use them. Their work is first rate and their customer service is EXCELLENT so I can’t imagine going anywhere else!

This was the best overall experience I’ve had at an auto repair shop. I dropped my car off after-hours, which was very easy with their dropbox. They were quick to diagnose the issue I brought in the car for, and also noted a few things that needed attention like brake fluid and coolant. I knew it had been a long time since either fluid had been flushed, so I appreciated them letting me know about it. Their online invoice system works really well and is easy to understand and to use. They had great communication about my vehicle, the issues, and the status of the repairs. I was able to pick up my car after hours just as easily as dropping it off. I will definitely be bringing my cars here again in the future!

This time they fit me in for a clutch safety switch replacement and made sure I had transportation to their shop. I trust their work; it is always exemplary. In addition their prices are fair, they are courteous and they perform the work in a timely manner.

Needed a tire for my car, after waking up to a flat. Was able to get a spare on, but had to google tire places near me. I knew the at the dealer would be a ridiculous price and would not be swift. After checking out 2 other places, saw the reviews on this one and decided to check out the local mom & pop automotive shop. And I’m glad I did. Everyone was so nice, from speaking with Amber, who was great and let me know the pricing, which was affordable and the best price over pep and CHtires. And The receptionist was great and they followed up after my car service, which only took like 2 hrs, after fitting me in early morning. I live 8mins away, and this will now be my to go place for my car.
